COVID-19 cases in Africa exceed 371,000

The number of coronavirus cases in Africa reached 371,548 on Sunday, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said.

According to the health agency’s latest update, 9,484 people have died across the continent, which has 54 countries.

At least 178,407 patients have also recovered.

South Africa has the most cases with 131,800 while Egypt follows with 63,900.

Nigeria in West Africa recorded 24,100 infections, Cameroon in Central Africa 12,600 and Sudan in East Africa 9,300.

Southern Africa, one of the five geographical regions in the continent, stands as the most affected with 137,000 cases.

North Africa recorded 94,400 cases, West 72,000, East 35,200 and Central Africa 32,900.
