Heavy rainfall across east Africa has affected transport in Tanzania’s commercial capital, Dar es Salaam.

The ongoing rains caused flooding that forced the closure of key roads in the city.

The Dar es Salaam Regional Safety Unity said that the closure of three roads was caused by excessive water volumes, posing a risk to road users.

Flood waters swept away the bridge 0n the fourth road.

The country has so far reported at least 66 flood-related deaths, and there are fears the stagnant pools might lead to water borne diseases.

100,00 Tanzanians have been affected by the flood with experts attributing the extreme weather to climate change.
