Large swathes of South Africa’s Western Cape and Northern Cape provinces are expecting stormy winter weather over the next two days as a significant cold front edges towards the region.

Meteorologists from the national weather service are telling residents to brace for gale-force winds and low temperatures beginning Sunday night and into Monday.

The powerful gales are likely to cause stormy seas for those involved in the maritime trade, while heavy rains are projected to pose a flooding risk for some areas.

Mountainous parts of the Western Cape may experience light snowfall that could last into Tuesday.
