Uganda’s Ministry of Health on Thursday reported 176 new confirmed COVID-19 cases raising the nation’s total to 3,288.
This figure represents the second-highest daily increase in coronavirus cases in the East African country. It is also a sharp increase (134 percent) from Wednesday’s total of 75 cases.
The area which recorded the highest number of cases was Manafwa (72), a district in the eastern region of Uganda, followed by Kampala (39) and Kikuube (17).
Among the 176 cases were two health workers, from Jinja and Kampala, and two Ugandan truck drivers, who came from Kenya.
The steady increase in COVID-19 cases in Uganda has prompted authorities to come out and remind the public to adhere to health regulations or else face a reinstatement of strict measures to contain the spread of the pandemic.
The ministry also reported one more death which brought the total number to 33.
“One new COVID-19 death registered today. A Ugandan male, 40 years old, and a resident of Wakiso District. This brings the total COVID-19 deaths to 33.”
The ministry added that four foreign truck drivers, two Kenyans, one Ugandan and one Congolese and one Tanzanian, tested positive for COVID-19 and were denied entry into the country.
