Two killed in gas blast in Nigeria’s economic hub

Two people were killed and some others injured in a gas blast at a shop in Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub, local officials said Wednesday.

The explosion happened at around 6:58 p.m. local time (1758 GMT) on Tuesday at Ajao Estate area of Lagos, during which several shops were burnt, said Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, head of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.

Ibrahim Farinloye, coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency, told media that the explosion occurred due to a technician’s mishandling of a gas cylinder.
