Tunisia recorded Wednesday its highest daily new coronavirus cases since the outbreak in the country on March 2, by reporting 233 new COVID-19 infections, said Tunisian Ministry of Health.

The total number of confirmed cases in Tunisia reached 4,196, the ministry added in a statment.

1,628 patients have recovered from the virus while 81 others have died so far.

Since June 27, when Tunisia reopened borders to tourists, 2,995 confirmed cases have been reported across the country, including 560 imported cases and 31 deaths, the statement added.

“The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients reached 64 including 20 in intensive care units,” it said.

The Tunisian government has imposed strict preventive measures shortly after the detection of the first coronavirus case.
