Egyptian authorities on Monday allowed a four-day opening of the Rafah Border Crossing with the Gaza Strip for travel in both directions, Palestinian officials said.

The tiny Palestinian territory has been subjected to years of siege, blockading and periodic bombardment by Israel. The Rafah border post usually remains closed to most traffic by Egyptian authorities, so its opening offers a rare opportunity for Gaza residents to connect with the outside world.
