NAPSA Stars went top of the FAZ/MTN Zambian Super League on Friday after recording a 2-0 win against Buildcon.

Zambian midfielder Collins Sikombe netted twice in each half, including a 74th minute penalty, to give the home side their 14th win of the league campaign.

NAPSA Stars lead the table with 48 points after 26 games and are one ahead of Nkana and Forest Rangers who are second and third respectively on 45 points. Buildcon remained 13th on 29 points after playing 26 games.

Earlier on Friday, The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) announced that the Super League will end early on August 6 due to clubs failing to follow COVID-19 protocols.

The league will end after all teams have played 27 matches after which a champion will be declared. This means six teams have a chance to win the title: NAPSA Stars, Nkana, Forest Rangers, Green Eagles, ZESCO United and ZANACO.

Any team which will be unable to honour their remaining fixtures will forfeit the points. Last week, Buildcon was awarded a 3-0 victory over Nakambala Leopards after the latter failed show up for the match. Leopards had hinted that they would not show up for the game due to COVID-19 fears.

FAZ set a tentative date of October 17 to start the 2020/2021 season when it hopes to have implemented stricter protocols.
