Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health on Wednesday reported 784 new confirmed COVID-19 cases raising the nationwide total to 75,368.

199 recoveries were also recorded raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 31,204.

The death toll also rose to 1,198 after seven more people succumbed to the disease.

The health ministry said that it had 42,964 active cases, out of which 269 were classified as severe cases.

Ethiopia is the worst-affected country by the coronavirus in the East African region.

The Ethiopian government had launched a nationwide month-long testing campaign which was expected to determine the next steps it will undertake in its response to the pandemic.

So far, just over 1.2 million laboratory tests have been carried out in the country.
