Ethiopia is celebrating its yearly Flag Day. Ethiopians in every corner of the country and the nation’s diplomatic offices and embassies across the world are celebrating the day.

A horizontal tri-colour of green, yellow and red and a star in the middle is Ethiopia’s flag flying high all day on Monday.

Speaking at the 10th Ethiopian Flag Day celebration, the nation’s president Mulatu Teshome said: “A flag for us Ethiopians has a special meaning. Our flag is emblem of our freedom and sovereignty which we kept intact through generations. It’s also symbol of our democratic unity.”

Thousands from different walks of life were also part of the colourful event.

Besides celebrating national identity Ethiopia wants to achieve country-wide unity through celebrating this day. Many observers say this plan, although it faces many challenges, can be achieved.
