Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov discussed on Monday the developments of regional issues, including the situation in Libya.

During a phone conversation, the top diplomats focused on the Libyan issue, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Shoukry highlighted the importance of reaching a comprehensive cease-fire agreement in Libya, as well as the need to bust all armed militias.

He also underlined the pullout of all foreign forces from Libya, and active negotiations to reach a political solution.

They also discussed developments in Syria, noting the need to reach a comprehensive settlement of the crisis on the basis of UN references.

Any solutions should preserve unity, independence, and sovereignty of the Syrian territories and guarantee the security and safety of the Syrian people, they said.

On the Palestinian cause, the Egyptian foreign minister emphasized the need to preserve the legitimate Palestinian rights and the principle of the two-state solution within the framework of international legitimacy resolutions.
