Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi has been cleared for release from quarantine after spending two weeks in self isolation.
The 57-year-old went into quarantine following a May 19 trip to Harare, Zimbabwe, where he went to attend a SADC Extra Ordinary Summit on Politics, Defence and Security.
“The Office of the President wishes to inform the public that the Director of Health Services has authorized the release of His Excellency Mokgweetsi Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, from home quarantine with effect from tomorrow, Tuesday June 2,” the presidency said on Monday, adding that the head of state had tested negative in the latest tests conducted.

Botswana is one of many countries globally that are battling the COVID-19 pandemic. The Southern African nation has reported 38 infections and one death, according to figures published by the government.
So far, Botswana has conducted 21,716 tests.
According to data from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, the continent has reported more than 142,000 COVID-19 infections and over 4,000 deaths.
