Aliko Dangote remains atop Forbes list of Africa’s wealthiest

Forbes Magazine on Tuesday released the list of Africa’s wealthiest people for the past 12 months. The 20 billionaires on the list are worth a combined 82.4 billion U.S. dollars.

Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote took the top spot for the 13th year in a row. He increased his wealth by 400 million and is now worth 13.9 billion U.S. dollars.

Johann Rupert, a South African dealing with luxury goods is second on the list with a net worth 10.1 billion net worth. His countryman, Nicky Oppenheimer is third with 9.4 billion.

Egyptian businessman Nassef Sawiris, and Nigeria’s Mike Adenuga round out the top five with 8.9 billion and 6.9 billion respectively.

Forbes calculates the net worth using currency exchange rates and stock prices by the close of business on January 8, 2024. Forbes tracks billionaires residing in Africa, or who have their primary businesses on the continent.
