AFCON 2017: African champions Cameroon to battle other continental champs in Russia
After their deserved 2017 Africa Cup of Nations win, Cameroon will now turn their focus to the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup that will be hosted by Russia from 17 June to 2 July 2017.
The Indomitable Lions will battle for supremacy with champions from other continents in the quadrennial tournament that will be played as prelude to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Cameroon came from behind to beat Egypt in the final played on Sunday at the Stade de l’Amitie in Libreville, earning them a ticket to their third Confederations Cup appearance.
The Central African nation came into the Gabon showdown marred by setbacks including the rejection of some Europe-based players to participate in the continental competition.
They Cameroonians however beat all odds to be crowned African football champions, meaning those who rejected the call-ups have missed on the continent’s greatest football achievement.
The young side will compete in Russia with Germany, Portugal, Chile, Australia, Mexico, New Zealand and Russia.
