A gang of gunmen attacked a community in Nigeria’s north-central state of Kogi and killed 14 people early Wednesday, said the police.

Among the dead victims 13 were members of a family in the Agbudu community of the Korton-Karfe local government area of Kogi, said state police chief Ede Ayuba.

Ayuba told reporters that six others were wounded by the gunmen, whose motive for the attack is unknown for now.

All the victims were shot dead. The gunmen had escaped before the arrival of security agents, said the police chief.

An investigation has been launched amid a search for the attackers, Ayuba added.
