Burkina Faso overcame Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations third-place play-off on Saturday to end the 2017 competition on a high note.

The Stallions left it late to snatch the winner, scoring through Alain Traore in the 89th minute with a stunning nfree kick that found the left top corner of the net.

The two teams were evenly matched throughout the game, though Ghana had better chances to take the lead.

The result means the Black Stars ended the Gabon competition with the weight of two consecutive losses hanging on their shoulders.

The win brought some joy into the Burkina Faso camp after the heart-breaking loss to Egypt through a penalty shoot-out in the semi-finals.

Saturday’s game was a curtain-raiser for today’s final showdown pitting seven-time champions Egypt against four-time champions Cameroon.

The final will be a repeat of the Ghana 2008 final that the North Africans won 1-0.

For The Indomitable Lions, this will be a perfect opportunity to revenge that loss and win a fifth continental title.

A colourful closing ceremony will precede the final, with performances from female musicians only.

The final begins at 1900GMT.
