Zimbabwe’s new central bank governor assumes office

Read < 1 minute

John Mushayavanhu officially began his tenure as the governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) on Thursday, a month earlier than initially expected.

Mushayavanhu was expected to replace John Mangudya once the latter’s second five-year term at the institution ended on April 30.

However, a notice from Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said President Emmerson Mnangagwa moved up Mushayavanhu’s start date to March 28. The notice didn’t give a reason.
