Xi meets Senegalese president in Johannesburg

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday met with Senegalese President Macky Sall on the sidelines of the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.

During the meeting, Xi pointed out that Senegal is an important partner for China in Africa. In recent years, with joint efforts from both sides, political mutual trust between China and Senegal has continued to deepen, and fruitful results have been achieved in various areas of cooperation.

The Chinese side firmly supports Senegal’s efforts to maintain national stability and development, and is willing to strengthen mutual support with Senegal and deepen cooperation in fields such as industry, agriculture, infrastructure construction, and human resource development, Xi said.

Xi emphasized that the current international situation is undergoing profound and complex changes, and China and Africa need to strengthen solidarity and cooperation more than ever.

On his part, Sall stated that Senegal and China are high-quality comprehensive strategic partners, and President Xi Jinping is a great friend of Africa and Senegal.

Sall added that both sides have conducted mutually beneficial cooperation in a wide range of areas such as infrastructure, industry, agriculture, and education, guided by a spirit of sincere friendship.

He noted that Senegal firmly adheres to the one-China principle, appreciates China’s pursuit of a peaceful diplomatic policy, and hopes to deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation with China.
