World’s oldest man is possibly a South African
The world’s oldest man could be living in Africa, particularly in South Africa’s Cape Town.
On Tuesday, Fredie Blom celebrated his 114th birthday, drawing the world’s attention to the possibility of him being the eldest human alive.
This confirmation would however have to be done by the Guinness Book of World’s Records, which would then enlist him as the newest member of record setters globally.
Blom’s national identity documents confirm that he’s 114 years old.
After the Tuesday celebrations, the South African expressed his delight at living this long, terming it a blessing.
“I feel very good due to God’s blessings, It’s made me feel good. I am not alone today, God is with me,” a happy Blom said.
“I can’t believe it,i’ve heard the people are saying I’m the oldest,i can’t believe it,that I can be that old.”
Due to his old age, Blom’s legs have had problems in recent years, making it hard for him to take walks to visit his relations.
His wife still remembers their younger days.
“We were dancers. It’s true we met at a dance and we became friends for 12 years, and after that we got married,” Jeanette Blom reminisced.
Efforts are now underway to bring in the correct international record authorities are able to officially certify him.
