Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is set to travel to Tanzania for a pre-season game against Kenyan giants Gor Mahia.
The 31-year-old who re-signed for his boyhood club Everton is part of the Merseysiders team set to play the Kenyan side in Tanzania’s National Stadium on Thursday 13.
Rooney expressed his delight ahead of the much hyped game, saying he is looking forward to it.
“I’m looking forward to it – it should be a good trip,” he told evertontv. “It’ll be nice and hopefully I’ll get on the pitch and get some game-time.
“It’s good when you go away with the team. It’s good to be around the hotel with the players, spend more time with them and get to know them more.
“I’ve never been to Tanzania before, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
Gor Mahia – who are Kenya’s most successful club, winning the national league a record 15 times – won a cup played between East African sides, automatically earning them the right to take on the Premier League team.
Other stars that are expected to play in that game include Morgan Schneiderlin, Phil Jagielka, Ross Barkley, Leighton Baines, Seamus Coleman among many others.
The Premier League kicks off on August 11, with FA Cup winners Arsenal taking on Leicester City.
