South Sudan’s warring factions are expected to form a unity government next week in a move expected to put a stop to the war that has hampered the country’s development.
The youngest country in Africa descended into war after President Salva Kiir accused his then deputy Riek Macjar of plotting a coup against him.
The ensuing feud between the two led to a war that’s cost tens of thousands of lives and left South Sudan with desperate shortages of food and fuel.
Now, Salva Kiir is urging his supporters to welcome back his arch-rival, former vice president Riek Machar. And to help rebuild.
Machar is due in the capital Juba next week. Also due there, leaders from across the region, all eager to see a new government of national unity agreed and working.
