US airstrike in Somalia kills three militants
The U.S. military said on Friday that it had killed three militants after launching an air strike against al-Shabaab in Somalia.
AFRICOM said it carried out the attack near Jilib in southern Somalia on April 5, also destroying one vehicle with a mounted heavy machine gun.
“In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Forces conducted an airstrike against Al-Shabaab militants near Jilib, Somalia, the afternoon of April 5, killing three (3) terrorists and destroying one (1) vehicle with a mounted heavy machine gun,” a statement from AFRICOM said in part.
The agency also confirmed that no civilians were killed in the attack.
It went ahead to say that the U.S. forces would continue their operations to protect Americans and disable threats of terror.
AFRICOM also said it would continue partnering with AMISOM and Somali National Security Forces (SNSF) to conduct counter terrorism strikes against militants.
