Read < 1 minute

Hundreds of UN staffers in Somalia participated in a clean-up exercise at the seashore in Mogadishu, to mark the global body’s 70th anniversary.

The celebration provided an opportunity to look back on the UN’s history and take stock of its enduring achievements.

It was also an opportunity to spotlight where the UN needs to redouble its efforts to meet current and future challenges across the three pillars of its work: peace and security, development, and human rights.

The UN day’s events also featured a flag raising ceremony celebrating the dedication and courage of UN civilian and military personnel, who devote their lives to peace, development and respect for human rights throughout the world.
