Two Kenyan cargo truck drivers tested positive for COVID-19 in Uganda on Thursday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 83, the Ugandan Health Ministry said.
According to the ministry, out of 2,071 samples run at Uganda Virus Research Institute, samples of a 55-year-old and 27-year-old male truck drivers tested positive for the virus.
“A total of 2,248 contacts to the COVID-19 confirmed cases have been listed to date. Of these, 1,440 completed the mandatory 14 day follow up while 808 contacts are being followed by our surveillance officers,” the ministry said.
Observers say cross-border cargo checkpoints have become Uganda’s new battlefront in the fight against COVID-19, since the country closed all its borders to all traffic except cargo.
