Uganda’s Ministry of Health on Wednesday reported 146 new coronavirus cases raising the national total to 11,767.

All of the new cases were reported from contacts and alerts, with the capital Kampala (74) registering the highest number of cases followed by Kiryandongo (16), Gulu (11) and Sironko (11).

The ministry reported three new coronavirus-related deaths, all in Kampala, raising the nationwide death toll to 106.

The ministry also reported 61 new recoveries from the disease raising the total to 7,461.

The ministry has been receiving a range of medical and non-medical equipment to boost the nation’s COVID-19 response. The most recent one was on Wednesday from the Mastercard Foundation which donated healthcare equipment.

Uganda has recorded a steady increase in coronavirus cases despite some countries in Africa recording a downward trend in recent months.

Despite this, the government eased a number of COVID-19-related restrictions with President Yoweri Museveni arguing that the country could not perpetually remain under restrictions with the future of the economy at stake.
