A British tourist and a Nigerian man were killed in an attack on a recreational resort in northern Nigeria.

Police say a group of armed suspect stormed Kajuru Castle in Kajuru and started shooting indiscriminately.

In addition to the two people who were killed, police say the attackers also kidnapped three others.

Police say there has been no claim of responsibility for the incident and the kidnappers are yet to be identified.

The British High Commission says it is engaging with the Nigerian authorities as an investigation into the incident is underway.

Kidnappings are widespread in Nigeria, where both locals and foreigners are targeted, mainly for ransom.

Northern Nigeria is plagued by a Boko Haram and Islamic State insurgency as well as clashes between farmers and herders.
