Tutu lays criminal charges against his granddaughter
Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s granddaughter, Ziyanda Tutu is being investigated for malicious damage to property.
Ziyanda is accused of destroying property after an altercation with her grandmother, Leah.
The SA Breaking news website says that the Tutu’s have since filed a charge of malicious damage to property against Ziyanda.
Ziyanda is alleged to have broken plates, ornaments and other objects, causing damage to the value of around R50 000.
Police have confirmed an investigation is ongoing. No further details have been released.
Media reports indicated that on Thursday, the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation released a statement saying Tutu and his wife Leah had laid a criminal charge against their relative.
“We are naturally distressed and deeply saddened. The Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation hopes and prays that the family will soon be able to put this incident behind it.”
But Ziyanda appeared to be in a fighting mood on social media, stating:

Reports say that Ziyanda responded to the charge by saying that she is deeply hurt by the move and would have preferred the matter be settled in private. She said her relationship with her grandmother had always been strained.
