Tunisian president-elect to take oath on Wednesday
The Tunisian parliament will hold a plenary session on Wednesday for the swearing-in of the newly elected president, Kais Saied, the parliament announced on Tuesday.
“Kais Saied, 61 years old, will take an oath tomorrow before the parliament for the next five years before addressing the Tunisian people with a speech,” the parliament said in a statement.
The plenary session will be attended by senior officials of the country and members of the diplomatic corps in Tunisia.
Saied won the second round of the presidential election on October 13, with 72.71 percent of the vote against 27.29 percent garnered by his contender Nabil Karoui, a businessman.
Saied will become the eighth president of the Tunisian republic since its independence in 1956, and the second directly elected leader since the 2011 uprising, after Beji Caid Essebsi, who died on July 25.
