Trump baby balloon raised to protest his state visit to UK
The 20-foot high Trump baby balloon returned to skies over London as U.S. President Donald Trump continues his state visit to the United Kingdom.
Members of the Stop Trump Coalition raised the balloon, which shows Trump as a baby, over Parliament Square in London. The flyover coincided with Trump’s Tuesday morning meeting with British Prime Minister Theresa May at nearby St. James Palace.
The launch marked what is expected to be a day of protests across the country. In central London, the leader of Britain’s opposition Labour Party will join tens of thousands in a “Carnival of Resistance” against the president. Environmental activists, anti-racism campaigners and women’s rights protesters are among the other groups taking part.
Leo Murray, who helped create the balloon says his goal is to remind Trump how unwelcome he is in the UK.
“We’re also, in a light-hearted way, trying to articulate the strength of feeling against Donald Trump and his politics of hate,” he said. “We want to put a smile on people’s faces as well as make a serious point.”
The Trump baby balloon was first used last year during Trump’s first visit to the UK. It also followed Trump to the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires and the Women’s March California 2019 in Los Angeles.
