Tanzanian President John Magufuli is expected to make an official two-day visit to neighbouring Malawi next week for talks with his counterpart Peter Mutharika.

Magufuli’s trip will run from 24 to 25 April, and will be his first to the country since he took office in November 2015.

His meeting with Mutharika will focus on, among other things, the disputed Lake Nyasa border.

“Apart from holding bilateral talks with Mutharika, Magufuli will open the 2019 Tobacco Market season at the Lilongwe Auction Floors on 25th April 2019,” Malawi’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

President Magufuli is not known to travel abroad a lot.

In October 2018, he said he often sent ministerial delegations to represent him in some forums to save taxpayers’ money. He said it was cheaper to have ministers attend the forums compared to him travelling with his delegation.
