Heads of State and Government gathered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the 36th African Union (AU) summit under the theme: Acceleration of the AfCFTA.

The annual summit convenes a year into the Ukraine-Russia conflict and within the backdrop of heightened geopolitical activity on the continent. Critically, the AU remains in dire need of reforms. In particular, is the question of financing its own operations, which denies it leverage to push its own agenda.
