TALK AFRICA: Change of guard at SADC

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe handed over the chairmanship of the 15-member Southern African Development Community to Botswana’s Ian Khama last week at the 35th summit of heads of state and government in Gaborone.

As SADC chair Mugabe has championed an industrialization strategy to increase foreign direct investment, and now Khama has urged the community’s leaders to “walk the talk” and implement the regional body’s key plans.

So what else is in Ian Khama’s in-tray as he takes charge of the bloc? And where does SADC’s future lie?
