Syria air strikes: Trump hails it as a ‘perfect’ mission
In a tweet, US President Donald Trump has hailed an overnight military strike on Syria as ‘’perfectly executed’ ’adding that it was ‘’Mission Accomplished’’.
The US, UK and France bombed three government sites, targeting what they said were chemical weapons facilities.
The strikes were in response to a suspected deadly chemical attack on the town of Douma last week.
Trump further added that he is “so proud of our great Military which will soon be, after the spending of billions of fully approved dollars, the finest that our Country has ever had. There won’t be anything, or anyone, even close!”
This even as Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the Western strikes in the most serious way.
Russia, Syria’s main ally, had threatened military retaliation if any Russian forces had been hit.
Trump’s remarks on Twitter are reminiscent of President George Bush’s 2003 speech announcing an end to major combat operations in Iraq on the on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln with a big sign that read ,’Mission accomplished’ in the backdrop.
The wave of strikes is the most significant attack against President Bashar al-Assad’s government by Western powers in seven years of Syria’s civil war.
