Swaziland’s annual festival celebrates female virginity

King Mswati III has used the festival that draws hundreds of tourists to discourage promiscous sex.

Tens of thousands of unmarried, childless Swazi girls and women from various chiefdoms traveled to Ludzidzini royal village to participate in the annual reed dance in the kingdom of Swaziland.

The reed dance also known as umhlanga, the annual festival is celebrating the female virginity this year as the country battles the increased HIV/AIDs rates in the country.

All the women and girls participating in the festival received basic sex education to promote chastity.King Mswati III has used the festival that draws hundreds of tourists to discourage promiscous sex. King Mswati has pledged to eradicate HIV/AIDS in the kingdom by the year 2022.
