The Nigerian National team coach, Sunday Oliseh has rubbished claims that he insulted Vincent Enyeama’s mother before ordering security to throw him out of a team session in Belgium prior to the teams defeat to DR Congo.
Enyeama, the immediate former Super eagles captain announced his retirement via Instagram amid reports of a row with new coach Oliseh.
Speaking on the issue for the first time since it leaked out, Oliseh debunked the claims, stating that he was surprised by the goalkeeper’s allegations on social media, something that has turned many fans against him, a fact that was worsened by the team’s 2-0 defeat to Congo DR in a friendly on Thursday night.
Oliseh stated that the goalkeeper had insisted on airing his views during dinner after Tuesday’s training, despite the coach’s instructions to await a more appropriate time for doing so.
The goalkeeper was also unhappy with the fact that he was overlooked as captain of the Super Eagles in favor of Ahmed Musa during a routine meet and greet with the Nigerian ambassador to Belgium after their work out.
Oliseh said that some senior player in the team attempted to calm Enyeama down before leading him away from the room.
He said he didn’t call security to take the Lille shot stopper out of the room and was surprised to find out that Enyeama claimed on Instagram that he was thrown out by security and that his mother had been insulted.
“How can I insult your mother? Never did the issue of Vincent Enyeama’s mother come up, ” said Oliseh.
He went ahead to say that Musa and Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel came to his room later to apologize on behalf of the goalkeeper and that he had forgiven him.
Enyeama decided to leave camp on Thursday following the invitation of young goalkeeper Dele Alampasu as back up for the two goalkeepers.
He then announced his retirement from the team after 13 years, a duration in which he was capped 101 times for his country, representing the Super Eagles in three World Cups and five Nations’ Cups tournaments.
