Sudan’s National Council for Civil Defense on Friday said a total of 73 people have been killed due to the torrential rains which hit the country recently.

“The casualties in all states of Sudan since the beginning of the rainy season included 73 deaths and 29 injuries,” the council said in its daily report on its website.

“A total of 17,063 houses have completely collapsed, while 25,562 houses partially collapsed, and 5,276 heads of cattle were killed,” it added.

Sudan often witnesses floods caused by heavy rains from June to October.

Meanwhile, the floods committee at Sudan’s irrigation and water resources ministry urged the concerned authorities and citizens to be alert and adopt the necessary measures in protection of lives and properties.
