South Sudan’s will increase the number of states in the country after its cabinet approved President Salva Kiir’s controversial decision to have more states.
The controversial bill will see the number of states in Africa’s youngest nation rise from the current 10 to 28.
Kiir’s move was widely condemned by the international community and the opposition in the country.
Igad says that the increase in the number of states violates the peace agreement signed between the president and the opposition in August.
The order now awaits approval by parliament before it comes into effect.
The peace deal is already under threat as both sides have been acused of violating the ceasefire.
Some of the rebels have already threatened to take up arms again if the decision is not rescinded.
