Rebecca Nyandeng, the widow of the popular South Sudan liberation hero John Garand has called on the world’s youngest country’s government to lay down their arms and forsake the ruling President Salva Kiir, reports VOA.
“I am appealing to soldiers of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) not to fight one another, to come back for peace, and leave this senseless war for President Salva,” Nyandeng said Monday.
The widow told the VOA that the President is amassing wealth while the soldiers go without paycheck.
SPLA fought for South Sudan’s independence from Sudan but split into pro and anti-government factions in December 2013, taking the country into civil war.
