South Africa’s parliament to review rules on removing president

Read < 1 minute

South Africa’s parliament on Sunday said it would review its rules regarding the removal of a president from power.

The announcement comes following a constitutional court ruling in December that said that lawmakers had previously failed to hold President Jacob Zuma to account.

A parliamentary subcommittee is scheduled to meet later this week to discuss a draft procedure on the section of the constitution relating to the removal of a president.

The National Assembly said in a statement that the draft will then be debated in the house.

Zuma has survived several no-confidence votes in parliament during his tenure as president, mostly relating to a string of corruption allegations.

He denied all charges.
