Somali government agrees to national crackdown on militants
In Somalia, MPs and leaders of regional administrations have met for the first time since the election of President Mohamed Abdulahi Farmajo.
The meeting has taken place in the capital, Mogadishu. Leaders have agreed to start a countrywide operation against terrorist group al-Shabaab. Somalia is experiencing its third drought in 25 years as a result of a lack of rain. More than 6.2 million people need humanitarian assistance.
Aid agencies say those who live in areas controlled by al-Shabaab are especially in need of urgent help.
