#Solidarity: Tunisia Mini Skirt Protest

Read < 1 minute

Dozens of women wearing miniskirts rallied in the Tunisian capital on Saturday. The rally was in response to an online campaign in Algeria a week ago. It called on men in Algeria to not let women wear revealing clothes in public. In opposition to the campaign, Rachid Ben Othman launched a counter-initiative. He created a Facebook event calling on women worldwide to rally on 6 June wearing miniskirts. The Facebook page attracted thousands of likes, but only a few dozens attended the actual rally. However some conservatives have posted messages expressing support for the Hijab on the Facebook page.

The movement echoes similar protests held by the international ‘SlutWalk’ movement in which women protest against explaining or excusing rape by referring to any aspect of a woman’s appearance, and call for an end to rape culture.
