Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Monday met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in the Chinese City of Xiamen, where they held discussions on boosting bilateral cooperation among other issues.

The two leaders are among other world leaders from the BRICS nations gathered in Xiamen for the 2017 BRICS meeting.

Russian Transport Minister Maksim Sokolov said he will report to the two presidents during their meeting that the Egyptian side has gone to considerable lengths to intensify aviation and transport security measures in airports, particularly in Cairo International Airport.

“Having studied the security situation in Terminal 2 of the Cairo International Airport, our experts gave a positive assessment of what they had seen,” Russian Tass news agency quotes Sokolov as saying.

Russia in October 2015 advised its citizens against visiting Egypt following the plane crash that killed more than 200 people, mostly Russians.

President al-Sisi got a chance to address the BRICS session on the positive developments the Egyptian economy has gained.

He is in Xiamen upon the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Other leaders invited to join the BRICS leaders for the 2017 gathering are those from Guinea, Mexico, Tajikistan and Thailand.
