The Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Wang Yi met with the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Monday.

Wang said that China is willing to further strengthen strategic communication with Russia, enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen the alignment between the Belt and Road initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union, enhance coordination and cooperation at the bilateral, regional and international levels, as well as jointly oppose hegemony, constantly enrich the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era, and inject more new impetus into the multi-polarization of the world and the democratization of international relations.

On his part, Patrushev said that under the current situation, China and Russia are actively practicing multilateralism, jointly opposing unilateralism, resisting hegemonic actions that safeguard a few countries’ interests by taking advantage of multilateral mechanisms, and opposing the Cold War mentality that intensifies regional and international tensions.

Patrushev further noted that Russia is willing to strengthen strategic communication with China, expand pragmatic cooperation, deepen coordination and cooperation under the framework of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, so as to inject more stabilizing forces into the turbulent world.
