Kenyan authorities have beefed up security at the coastal region following threats of terror attacks by the Somalia Al shabaab terrorists group, reports Xinhua.

Kenya’s National Intelligence Services (NIS) leaked report warns of possible imminent attacks on unidentified locations in two counties across the coast provinces which include Kilifi, Tana River and Kitui which lies in eastern Kenya.

NIS report does not have the exact place and time that the attacked that are suspected to be carried out by the terrorist group will take place. Al Shabaab has carried out deadly terror attacks across the East African country in the past.

Five terror suspects are said to have arrived in Kenya’s coastal town of Malindi in private cars on the 7th of November to coordinate the attacks. The suspects, Shamid Ahmed, the group leader, Abdula Alhdi, Aisha Alhadi, Mohammed and Rashid are believed to have sneaked into the country from Somalia after they underwent paramilitary training according to the Xinhua report.

“We have heightened security in Kilifi County ahead of the festive season, but urge resident to be extra vigilant,” Malindi police commander Matawa Mchangi said on Thursday

Mchangi added that several police units, especially the anti-terrorism police officers, are on higher alert.
