Sadio Mane confident Liverpool can win Champions League
Liverpool’s Senegalese forward Sadio Mane says his side can beat Spanish giants Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final scheduled for 26 May.
Liverpool booked their place at the Kiev showdown after beating Italian side AS Roma 7-1 on aggregate in the semi-final stage.
“We honestly believe we can beat them,” the 26-year-old Senegalese said.
“I can say at this moment we do have a lot of respect for Madrid, they are one of the best teams in the world, but we are Liverpool – we are strong and we can beat any team in the world,” he added.
Mane said the Reds have the players who can win them the coveted trophy later this month, saying they had nothing to fear.
“We are going to go there and fight for the fans, for the club, fight without fear and win the final. We have the players. We can score goals, we have shown that and there is nothing to be afraid of for us,” he said.
Mane scored two of Liverpool’s seven goals over the two legs, earning the Merseyside club their first Champions League final appearance in over a decade.
Real Madrid on the other hand are chasing a third consecutive Champions League trophy, and will be hoping star man Cristiano Ronaldo is at his best in the Kiev final.
Madrid dispatched German Champions Bayern Munich in the semi-final stage by a 4-3 aggregate score.
