Rwanda’s national carrier, RwandAir, will take off today at midday for London’s second busiest airport, Gatwick International Airport, in its maiden direct flight to Europe, reports Rwanda Times.
The airline’s brand new Airbus A330 that has the latest technology that allows for inflight connectivity will be making the flight.
RwandAir will be making three trips a week to the English capital, in what is deemed as an important milestone towards improving trade relations between Rwanda, the region and the European continent.
We anticipate increased volumes in terms of exports to the European market through the UK,” said Epimaque Nsanzabaganwa, the horticulture division manager at the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB).
RwandAir has already offered to cut freight charges for exporters to as low as $0.95 per kilogramme.
“Rwanda is counting on tourism to boost its exports, therefore creating a seamless connectivity between Rwanda and other markets means people can now find it easier to travel between destinations,” Osborn Kinene, the Rwanda Eco-Tours country manager told The New Times.
