At least 14 people were killed on Thursday night after an uncontrolled Congolese army (FARDC) soldier opened fire on them in the city of Sange in South Kivu Province.

According to military sources, the soldier tried to steal a resident’s phone but found himself in front of several people who tried to stop him. To save himself, the soldier started shooting in disorder with his weapon which hit several people in their houses and others in public.

The wounded and dead were taken to the Sange general referral hospital.
