Record champions Egypt and Senegal qualify for 2017 AFCON

Egypt and Senegal yesterday secured their slots in the 2017 African Nations Cup that will be hosted by Gabon, joining already qualified teams like Algeria, Cameroon and Morocco.

Egypt’s Mohamed Salah helped his country secure qualification by scoring twice in their 2-0 win over Tanzania.

Senegal on the other hand also beat Burundi by a similar margin.

Egypt, AFCON’s record winners will be appearing in the tournament next year after a seven year absence, having missed three consecutive editions.

In other results from the games played yesterday, Mali beat South Sudan by a neat 3-0 score line, Uganda beat Botswana by 2-1, Cape Verde saw off Sao Tome and Principe by 2-1, Sierra Leonne managed a 1-0 win over Sudan, Guinea Bissau registered a crucial 3-2 win over Zambia, and South Africa beat Gambia by 4-0.
