Since establishing diplomatic ties in 1963, Kenya and China have built and maintained solid relations, both enjoying benefits of the win-win cooperation.
The East African country has been marked out as an important partner in Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative, which weeks to link up the world through road and rail infrastructure.
The initiative, a President Xi Jinping brainchild, is expected to ease movement of people and goods across the world, ultimately enhancing cross-border trade and cooperation.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has hailed the Belt and Road Initiative, saying it has the potential to lift the countries involved to better levels.
“I think it’s just tremendous. Because what is the objective? The objective is to open up our economies, to trade. The objective is to encourage trade amongst us, connecting Asia, parts of Europe, the gulf regions, linking us all the way to the African continent, from the Eastern side of Africa all the way across the West. I believe it has a huge potential of a win-win situation for all who are involved,” he said.
Kenyatta’s remarks came ahead of the 2018 FOCAC Summit, which will be held in Beijing under the theme “China and Africa: Toward an Even Stronger Community with a Shared Future through Win-Win Co-operation.”
Tens of African heads of state are expected to attend the summit, which will seek to take cooperation between the continent and China to new heights.
