Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to lead the country in celebrating its Independence Day.
Buhari arrived back into the country on Wednesday from New York where he had gone to attend the 70th United Nations General Assembly.
The president who took over Nigeria’s leadership in May this year, promised delegates in the UN assembly that he would rescue the Chibok girls abducted in April 2014, and also crush the Boko Haram threat.
Since taking power, Boko Haram has been a major challenge to his administration as the Islamist group has increased its attacks in the northern region of the country.
The president yesterday handed over his list of ministerial nominees to the president of the senate. Most notably, reports have emerged that Buhari has opted to make himself the minister of Oil because he does not trust anyone to lead the docket, which is Nigeria’s largest source of revenue.
Nigeria regained its independence on 1st October, 1960.
